AT&T awarded Imagination Library of Henderson Kentucky with a $10,000 grant. The ceremony took placeon Wednesday, August 1 at the AT&T Entertainment Experience Store located at 2201 US-41 in Henderson.
“AT&T is proud to support the Kyndle Education Foundation and their effort to support youth services and educational excellence throughout the region,” said Hood Harris, president, AT&T Kentucky. “Our company’s future, as well as the country’s, is dependent on today’s young people. Through Aspire, we support programs that invest in students, especially those who need it the most, so they can walk across the graduation stage ready for their future.”
Imagination Library, a program started by Dolly Parton, is a book gifting program that mails free, high-quality, age appropriate books to children from birth until age five, regardless of family income.
After launching in 1995 books were only distributed to children living in East Tennessee where Dolly grew up. It became such a success that in 2000 a national replication effort was underway. The program came to Henderson in 2003 and quickly grew. Today, the Imagination Library Program now has well over 1,300 children enrolled in the program.
“We truly appreciate AT&T choosing Imagination Library as a grant recipient,” said Leslie Hoskins, Kyndle Education Foundation Board Member. “Our foundation is always searching for ways to fund the local Imagination Library program. Every donation helps keep children reading and reading opens the world to them, not only from an education point of view but a cultural one as well.”
