Henderson Police have charged a man who was allegedly pulling a gun and pointing it at people on US Highway 41-A earlier this week. HPD Public Information Officer Jennifer Richmond says upon arrival this past Sunday, 23-year old Alec Atkinson was found standing in front of a residence in the 6200 block of US 41-A. Richmond says Atkinson refused to cooperate when told to show his hands. While placing handcuffs on Atkinson, authorities say he began to fight the officers. Atkinson was slurring his speech due to his level of intoxication. A woman on the scene stated that Atkinson was banging on her door screaming and calling her foul names. She and another person in the home went outside and an argument ensued. As Atkinson was walking away, he allegedly pulled a gun from the waistband of his pants and pointed it at them. Atkinson then dropped the gun and began searching for it in the grass. While he was searching, an unidentified white male ran into the yard, grabbed something off the ground (believed to be the gun), and then ran away. That person has not been located.

Alec Atkinson was arrested for Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree and Alcohol Intoxication. He was lodged at the Henderson County Detention Center. Anyone having information concerning the missing firearm is urged to contact Police at 831-1295 or call the Crime Stoppers hotline at 270-831-1111. Callers may remain anonymous.
