Commission approves budget ordinance for FY2019 on first reading

HENDERSON, Ky. – The City of Henderson Board of Commissioners passed on first reading a $31.286 million general fund budget and appropriations ordinance for the 2019 fiscal year at its regular meeting on Tuesday, June 12.
The board also passed on first reading an ordinance amending the 2018 budget to make adjustments where needed and passed on first reading an ordinance adopting the fiscal year 2019 budget of the Henderson Water Utility. HWU’s budget is $20.63 million.
In other business, the board:
Heard second readings on ordinances allowing beekeeping and setting fines for violations.
Heard a second reading adding language about the transient room tax to the Code since the Henderson County Tourist Commission will become a shared agency with the county on July 1.
Heard a first reading of an ordinance annexing property at 438 Old Corydon Road.
Approved a resolution to continue a health waiver benefit for employees who elect to waive coverage for themselves or their spouse.
Approved a resolution increasing the salary of the city attorney by 1 percent following an annual evaluation.
Approved an agreement with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet regarding the master plan for the Borax Drive Industrial Park.
Awarded a bid for the purchase of a granite columbarium, amended the mowing contract, accepted an agreement with International Paper for relocation of a gas regulator and meter and approved a lease with the Citi-Center Office Building for the creation of a mural.
Mayor Steve Austin also presented 20-year service award pins to Jennifer Richmond, Mike Ivie, Billy Schwartz and Cory Staples.
The next regular meeting is set for 5:30 p.m. June 26 in the third-floor Assembly Room at the Henderson Municipal Center.
