HENDERSON, KY, October 31, 2018– The City of Henderson and its collaborative partners are hosting a Grand Opening for The Perch, the new pocket park located in the 200 block of Second Street in downtown Henderson, for Friday, Nov. 2.
The 4:45 p.m. ribbon cutting is timed to coincide with the 10th-annual Art Hop Gallery Show & Sale hosted in downtown Henderson and presented by Downtown Henderson Partnership. The Art Hop hours are 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday and there will be an additional time to visit the pop-up galleries in the event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 3.
There are still a few finishing touches to add to The Perch, but it already features pergola-covered seating, a small stage (which will be utilized on Friday night starting at 4 p.m. with music performed for the ribbon-cutting event by Soul in the Pocket) and interactive newspaper box stations with games and books. The project is accented by the “Discover Your Nature” mural on the adjacent Hilliard Lyons Building.
Donors for The Perch project include: Dick and Sheila Beaven, Henderson Area Arts Alliance, Henderson Chamber of Commerce, Henderson Tourist Commission, Greg and Tammy Jones, Kate Kelsey, Bill Latta and Lindsay Locasto, Scott Logan/Historic Second LLC, National Association of REALTORS, Raymond B. Preston Family Foundation and Tri-County Council of Labor, AFL-CIO.
Community partners who planned and constructed The Perch are City of Henderson, Downtown Henderson Partnership, Field & Main Bank, Henderson Audubon Board of REALTORS, Henderson Tourist Commission and Ohio Valley Art League.
