HENDERSON’S JASON WARD WINS PRESTIGIOUS LEWIS B. COMBS AWARD

A MEMBER OF THE LOCAL STATE HIGHWAY MAINTENANCE OFFICE WHO ALSO SERVES IN THE U.S. MILITARY HAS WON ONE OF THE NAVY’S HIGHEST AWARDS
COMMANDER LANCE FLOOD, ON BEHALF OF THE CEC-SEABEE HISTORICAL FOUNDATION HAS ANNOUNCED THE RECIPIENT OF THE REAR ADMIRAL LEWIS B. COMBS AWARD. 
THE WINNER IS LT.COMMANDER JASON WARD OF NAVAL MOBILE CONSTRUCTION BATTALION ONE. 

WARD SERVED AS DETACHMENT COMBINED JOINT TASK FORCE HORN OF AFRICA OFFICER IN CHARGE.  HE BRILLIANTLY LED 98 TOTAL FORCE SEABEES CONDUCTING SPECIAL OPERATIONS, COMBAT SERVICE SUPPORT, STABILITY, AND SECURITY MISSIONS IN EAST AFRICA.  HE ESTABLISHED HIMSELF AS A TOTAL FORCE LEADER IN HIS ORCHESTRATION OF AN EFFECTIVE AND EFFICIENT WARRIOR TRANSITION AND DEMOBILIZATION PROCESS AVOIDING COMMON PITFALLS.
THROUGH THESE ACHIEVEMENTS AND THEIR STRONG LEADERSHIP, COURAGE, AND DEVOTION TO DUTY, LT. COMMADER WARD PERSONIFIED THE SPIRIT OF REAR ADMIRAL LEWIS B. COMBS. WARD ENSURED THE CONTINUED LEGACY AND PRESERVATION OF THE PROUD HERITAGE OF THE CIVIL ENGINEER CORPS AND THE SEABEES. 

THE COMBS AWARD IS NAMED IN THE MEMORY OF REAR ADMIRAL LEWIS B. COMBS, WHO PLAYED AN IMPORTANT ROLE IN THE HISTORY OF THE SEABEES AND THE CIVIL ENGINEER CORPS DURING HIS 30-YEAR NAVY CAREER. HE WAS INSTRUMENTAL IN ASSISTING IN ESTABLISHING AND ORGANIZING THE SEABEES. THIS AWARD IS GIVEN ANNUALLY TO THE NAVAL OFFICER, ENLISTED OCCUPATIONAL FIELD SEVEN SEABEE, OR CIVIL SERVANT WHO HAS MADE THE MOST OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTION IN PERPETUATING THE LEGACY OF ACCOMPLISHMENTS AND TRADITIONS OF THE CIVIL ENGINEER CORPS AND SEABEES PAST, PRESENT, AND FUTURE.
