Rotary Club of Henderson offers its inaugural Jim & Nyla Tillotson Graduate Studies Scholarship of $2,500 for the 2018-2019 academic year to an eligible applicant to be used in an accredited graduate school.
This scholarship has been created through the generosity of the late Jim Tillotson, and his wife, Nyla Tillotson. Jim was a long time member of the Henderson Rotary Club, serving as president in 1991-1992. For many years he was the chairman and trustee of the Henderson Rotary Charitable Trust. The generosity of Jim and his wife, Nyla, enabled the Rotary Club of Henderson County to be one of only a few Rotary clubs worldwide to achieve the 100% Paul Harris Fellows Award. Jim was a retired Colonel who served 28 years in the U.S. Air Force. A Command Pilot, graduate of the USAF Air War College and veteran of the Vietnamese conflict with 251 combat missions. Upon his retirement, Colonel Tillotson was Commander of the U.S. Air Force Aerospace Guidance and Metrology Center. During his career he received numerous awards including; The Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Distinguished Flying Cross, Meritorious Service Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster, Air Medal with eleven Oak Leaf Clusters, AF Commendation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, with two devices and Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with one Palm. Jim passed away in November 2015.
The Scholarship is based on current academic success, field of study/service, and financial need of the applicant. If you are interested, please complete the steps below and mail in your application.
Who should apply?
– Students who are residents of Henderson County, Kentucky, who graduated from Henderson County High School, Henderson, Kentucky, or who are employed fulltime in Henderson County, Kentucky, and who have a record of successful college work and, if applicable, work history.
– Students who will be applying to any accredited graduate school or who are current students in an accredited graduate school.
– Students who can demonstrate a need for additional funding to complete their program of study.
