Lane restriction on US 41 Twin Bridges on Tuesday & Wednesday

HENDERSON, Ky. (Feb. 11, 2013) –  The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet plans to restrict traffic to one lane on the US 41 Twin Bridges between Henderson and Evansville on Tuesday & Wednesday, February 12 & 13, 2013.

 

On Tuesday, SOUTHBOUND traffic will be restricted to one lane from approximately 8:30 a.m., CST, to approximately 3:00 p.m. to allow railing repairs along the bridge deck.

 

On Wednesday, NORTHBOUND traffic will be restriction to one lane from approximately 8:30 a.m., CST, to approximately 3:00 p.m. to allow railing repairs along the bridge deck.

 

Motorists should be prepared to encounter slowing and merging traffic on the bridge approaches.  Traffic shifts in this work zone may be changed during the day to facilitate the repairs.  Motorists should also be alert for personnel cleaning the bridge deck and performing other maintenance activities along this work zone.

 

Caution is required where equipment and personnel are on the bridge deck in close proximity to traffic flow.  Motorists are advised to avoid talking on their cell phones in this work zone.

 

In case of rain or snow on Wednesday, work on the northbound bridge will move to Thursday.

 

The US 41 Twin Bridges, also known as the Bi-State Viet Nam Gold Star Memorial Bridges, are located at US 41 mile point 19.649 about a mile south of the Kentucky-Indiana State Line.  They carry approximately 37,200 vehicles across the Ohio River between Henderson, KY, and Evansville, IN, on an average day.

 

The bridges are located about a mile downstream from the confluence of the Green River and the Ohio River at Ohio River navigation mile point 786.8.

 

The northbound bridge was opened to traffic on July 4, 1932.  The southbound bridge was opened to traffic on December 16,1965.
