Fraud! Fashion! & Preparedness! – Oh My!

Hundreds of area senior citizens are expected to fill Owensboro’s Towne Square Mall on Thursday, September 21, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., for the 18th annual “Senior Day Out”.
The annual event addresses current scams targeting seniors, in addition to providing valuable disaster preparedness information. Senior Day Out provides an opportunity for local businesses and service providers to interact with hundreds of seniors from across the GRADD region.
The serious topics are balanced with fun entertainment provided by local talent. This year’s featured performers will include musical guests Grayson Bryant (as Buddy Holly), and Randy Lanham and Wayne Morris. Christopher & Banks will present a Fall Fashion Show, and the audience will have the opportunity to interact in some fun games, testing their scam-prevention knowledge.
Senior Day Out is an event of the Green River Regional TRIAD/Elder Justice Coalition, in partnership with GRADD, Kentucky State Police, and Towne Square Mall.
Green River Regional TRIAD/Elder Justice Coalition consists of local law enforcement, senior service agencies, and older adults who work together to reduce criminal victimization of the elderly. The local TRIAD serves Daviess, Hancock, Henderson, McLean, Ohio, Union, and Webster Counties by offering educational material, programs, and activities such as the annual Senior Day Out at the Mall event.
Heather McGarvey, Daviess County Aging Coordinator states, “TRIAD is a valuable resource providing seniors and their families the most up-to-date fraud alerts, ways to prepare for disasters, and connections to law officers and officials. TRIAD’s focus is keeping safety awareness in the forefront of the minds of our community seniors so they have the knowledge to protect themselves from scams and other potential dangers.”
This year’s event is sponsored by Atmos Energy, Glen Funeral Home, Help at Home, Humana, and Sleep Number.
