Meeting set for Monday, September 16

MADISONVILLE, Ky. (Sept. 11, 2019) –   The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) is seeking public input on plans to improve safety and traffic flow at the U.S. 41 intersection with Watson Lane in Henderson.

A public meeting is scheduled for 5-7 p.m., CDT, at Bend Gate Elementary School on Monday, September 16.

Proposed improvements to safety and traffic flow include widening lanes, as well as adding a curb, gutter, and sidewalks. The project includes minor widening and other improvements along Watson Lane from Sunset Lane extending eastward to the Green River Road intersection.

KYTC District 2 Chief District Engineer Deneatra Henderson urged anyone who travels through the busy intersection to attend the meeting and provide feedback.

“Based on our most recent traffic count, more than 40,000 vehicles travel through this busy intersection each day,” Henderson said. “Our goal is to make sure everyone traveling in those vehicles move as safely and as efficiently as possible. We are encouraging anyone who travels U.S. 41 through the intersection or along Watson Lane in this area to attend the meeting and offer input.”

The intersection is along the U.S. 41 North Strip in Henderson at mile point 17.3, about two miles south of the U.S. 41 Twin Bridges. Design efforts and environmental studies are expected to be completed later this year to help KYTC engineers, design staff, and consultants define the costs and impacts associated with the proposed project aimed at reducing traffic congestion.

The meeting will be in an open house format with no formal presentation. The public meeting is seeking input from the public to assist in the decision-making and design process as the project moves toward eventual construction. Participants will be able to review displays and information about the project, talk directly to members of the project team, ask questions about the project, and provide feedback.

Handouts containing project information, comment sheets, and displays will be available at the meeting. Written and oral comments from this meeting will become part of the official record.

Both written and oral comments will be accepted during the meeting. For anyone unable to attend the public meeting, displays will be available for review and comments accepted at the KYTC District 2 office for up to 15 days after the meeting at 1840 North Main St., Madisonville, Ky. 42431.

In accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, if you have a disability for which the Transportation Cabinet needs to provide accommodation for this meeting, please notify Pam Broadston by calling (270) 824-7080.
