HFD – A Henderson Woman is Dead and Two Children Injuried by Carbon Monoxide

Henderson, KY, USA / WSON AM & FM

Emergency Crews responded to the Elmwood Apartments at 1818 North Elm Street for a medical emergency shortly after 10pm Saturday. Henderson Fire Chief Scott Foreman says fire fighters found a adult female unresponsive at the residence, and two children in serious condition. The adult female was declared deceased at the scene. The children were taken to a Methodist Health for apparent symptoms consistent with carbon-monoxide poisoning.

Firefighters tested the air in the home and found elevated levels of Carbon Monoxide. Its source was not immediately clear.

The deceased woman’s name and the conditions of the survivors is not being released at this time.

The Henderson Fire Department is advising residents to test their carbon monoxide detectors and replace them if needed.
Carbon monoxide poisoning deaths tend to increase in the winter but can happen year round. Carbon monoxide, or CO, has no odor, color or taste. CO poisoning symptoms include headache, dizziness, chest pain, vomiting, confusion and eventually unconsciousness.

The Henderson Fire Department was assisted by the Henderson Police Department, Henderson Ambulance Service, Henderson County Coroners Office, Henderson County EMA, Henderson Gas Department, and the Red Cross to provide a shelter for residents overnight.
