Commission finalizes trash collection rates

HENDERSON, Ky. – The City of Henderson Board of Commissioners finalized an ordinance that increases residential fees for collection of household refuse at its special-called meeting on Friday, Dec. 13.
The residential rate for collection and disposal of garbage will increase from $17 to $19.50 per month and will include a $1 per month earmark for recycling services. The last increase in residential collection was in July 2013.
The ordinance also sets a new fee for special pick-up of heavy trash or brush: $30 for a small load (pick-up truck or 1-ton dump truck) and $60 for a large truckload (single axle dump truck). The rate, set in 1995, has been $20.
Also in the meeting, which was likely the last of the decade, the commission finalized an ordinance that will allow the Henderson Police Department to rehire retired police officers and another that sets the pay rate for hiring them.
The next regular meeting is 5:30 p.m. Jan. 14 in the third-floor Assembly Room at the Henderson Municipal Center.
