As part of its Arts in the Schools program, the Henderson Area Arts Alliance will present the National Players’ production of The Diary of Anne Frank Tuesday March 3rd, 2020 and TheaterWorksUSA’s production of Charlotte’s Web on March 17th, 2020. National Players, America’s longest-running touring theatre company, will perform The Diary of Anne Frank by Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett (Wendy Kesselman adaptation), a stage adaptation of the book The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank, at the Preston Arts Center Tuesday, March 3rd at 9:30 a.m. 8th Graders from North and South Middle Schools and 7th Graders from Holy Name school will attend free of charge.
In 1942 Amsterdam, 13-year-old Anne Frank goes into hiding with her family from the Nazis. For the next two years, she never leaves the attic where her family is concealed. With fear of discovery ever present, Anne finds solace writing in her diary, capturing the daily lives of the secret annex’s inhabitants—from the horrors of war to the excitement of first love—with wit, determination, and idealism. With a multicultural cast, National Players brings the true story of this incredibly insightful young girl that is often read in school to the stage in hopes of inspiring the next generation to stand up for justice rather than sit back in apathy.
CHARLOTTE’S WEB
A creative spin on a classic tale! This reimagined production features bluegrass music and a clever set design, telling the treasured story of selfless love and the true meaning of friendship. Join Charlotte, Wilbur, and their farm animal friends in this terrific tale of bravery and hopefulness.
Every 2nd & 3rd Grade student in Henderson County, including Holy Name School, will attend one of two performances free of charge. Following the performance each student will be given their very own copy of Charlotte’s Web to keep thanks to a generous grant from International Paper’s Henderson Mill.
Charlotte’s Web is written by Joseph Robinette, based on the novel by E.B. White. Original direction and set design by Andrew Rasmussen, costume design by Tristan Raines, and original music composition and orchestrations by “Sheriff” Bob Saidenberg, Kat Minogue, Robert Abrahams, and Michael Donovan.
