Henderson, KY. Henderson County Public Library will be launching its Curbside Pick-Up on Monday,
June 8, 2020.
Some patrons may have noticed Curbside Pick-Up signs in front of the library in the evenings over
the past few weeks. Assistant Director Amber Potts explains, “Patrons who had items on the hold
shelf when the library closed on March 16 or who put something on hold online through their library
accounts have been participating in the beta-test for this program. We are excited about the
opportunity Curbside Pick-Up gives us to start in-person library services to the public again, even if it
is in a non-traditional way,“ Potts continued.
The library building will remain closed until early July when the library staff expects to be settled into
the new expansion. The Library Board of Trustees has been meeting regularly throughout the
COVID-19 closure and anticipates approving a specific date for re-opening the library’s doors once
the expansion construction is complete later this month.
Patrons may place requests for up to 10 items in the following ways:
• Call the library at 270-826-3712 during business hours (9 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 9
a.m.-5 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 1:30 p.m.-5 p.m. Sunday)
• Log into their library account and pick out the items they want by placing them on hold
• Place a request through the CONTACT US form on the website
When a Curbside Pick-Up request is received, staff will call the patron within 24 hours to schedule a
pick-up time. Appointments will be made in 15-minute intervals, between noon and 7 p.m. Monday-Thursday
and from noon until 4 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. The library will schedule up to three
customers per time slot.
Library users who usually browse the shelves to find a book or DVD may be interested in speaking to
a Reader’s Advisor. Several staff members have received extensive training on how to use the books
and movies someone has enjoyed in the past to help them select a new favorite book or movie.
The Curbside Pick-Up area will be located on Washington St. The pick-up area is one-way and
drivers should enter from Water St. Patrons with materials to return will be directed to place them in
the drop-box to the right of the Washington St. entrance, or return them to the drop-box in The Depot
parking lot at 101 N. Water St.
We request that only library materials be placed into drop boxes at this time. The capacity of these
containers is limited and our staff will not be able to empty them as often as they have in the past.
Donations to the library should be held onto until the building re-opens in July to provide maximum
space for the thousands of items we are expecting to be returned over the next several weeks.
Library materials are currently being quarantined after they are returned, so it may take up to 72
hours before an item shows that it has been returned. There are no late fees at this time and patrons
will not be fined for the delay.
