Henderson Municipal Gas a winner in APGA Safety Contest

HENDERSON, Ky. — Henderson Municipal Gas (HMG) has been recognized by the American Public Gas Association for its safety record in the 2019 calendar year.

Out of more than 700 APGA systems, only 41 were named winners in the annual APGA Safety Contest, including HMG.

For each group, the winners have the lowest number of recordable injuries in the provided man-hours worked. HMG is in the group with 38,001-70,000 man hours.

The groups are: Less than 8,000 hours, 8,001-18,000 hours, 18,001-38,000 hours, 38,001-70,000 hours and More than 70,000.

“HMG is three years plus running with no lost-time accidents,” said HMG Director Owen Reeves, who is also a past chairman of APGA. “That is quite an achievement for the varying environments our field crews must work in. Our employees and supervisors all work hard to stay safe protecting each other and our customers/the public.”

APGA Vice President of Operations and Pipeline Safety Erin Kurilla said the organization recognizes the accomplishment of HMG and believes that without the dedication of each employee this achievement would not be possible.

“We hope you continue on your safety journey and remain committed to the safety and well-being of your employees,” she said. “This year has already proven to be especially challenging given the unique and often stressful circumstances we are all facing. Pause and enjoy this award as a system, but also reflect on just how hard it can be to maintain this excellent safety record.”
