Busy signal when calling 911 being investigated

HENDERSON, Ky. – Over the weekend, some callers who dialed 911 to reach the 911 Emergency Communications Center received a busy signal, though the system is not designed that way.

Calls to 911 should always be answered. The 911 Emergency Communications Center immediately began working with its network providers to determine the cause of the busy signal and it continues to investigate.

911 is currently operational, but the Emergency Communications Center has this advice should you encounter the busy signal glitch when dialing 9-1-1:

If you call 911 and get a busy signal, immediately hang up and call 270-827-8700 to report your emergency.
