Economic impact through tourism continues to pay dividends for Henderson County

HENDERSON, Ky. (Aug. 17, 2020) – The 2019 economic impact of tourism in Henderson County equated to $79.88 million in visitor spending, announced Abby Dixon, executive director of the Henderson Tourist Commission on Monday.

The report, generated by Tourism Economics for the Kentucky Department of Tourism, reveals that dollars spent by visitors to Henderson County grew by about 4.9% over 2018. In 2019, the tourism industry in Henderson County supported more than 587 jobs and led to $5.93 million in state and local tax revenues.

“Despite today’s challenging times for the tourism and hospitality industry, 2019’s economic impact report tells us that visitors fall in love with the charm and authenticity of our river town retreat– two ingredients we’ll continue to capitalize on as travelers search for destinations close to home with plenty of fresh air and room to explore and do so safely,” said Dixon. “Moving forward, we’ll continue to hone our identity as a destination and promote Henderson County as a must-see stop on your travel bucket list.”

Established in 1984, the Henderson Tourist Commission exists to promote Henderson and Henderson County as a destination for visitors. By marketing its assets to support tourism as an economic driver, staff, and volunteers of the Tourist Commission serve as ambassadors of our community, creating meaningful experiences for visitors and residents alike.
