To say the ongoing pandemic has created many new challenges for our educational institutions is an understatement. Here in Henderson local schools are getting some much-needed support from a recently revived charitable organization.
Bill Floyd Chairs the Educational Foundation for Excellence in Henderson County, Inc. The not-for-profit organization was first established 30 years ago by Dr. John Logan the Third and others with the goal of putting computer labs in all Henderson Elementary schools. After that goal was reached Floyd says the Foundation went dormant for many years but is back now to again help schools address another technology need.
The Foundation says it’s committing funds to provide internet service to 450 local students and their families that currently do not have internet access. Floyd says the Foundation is working with the Henderson County Schools technology department and the Family Resource and Youth Service Centers to identify the students in need of the technical support, especially while classes are being conducted by way of distance learning.
In a statement, Floyd says this is a very appropriate time to match the goal of the current Foundation board with the original intent of the foundation through this project. Floyd promises this is just the beginning for the newly invigorated Foundation and says more information will be forthcoming on how the organization hopes to grow and work for supporting local education.
