HENDERSON, Ky. - The Henderson City Commission finalized its 2021 budget ordinance amendment on Tuesday, Nov. 17, and also finalized the annexation of a tract of land for a proposed sports complex.
The proposed sports complex is located at the edge of the city along Airline Road and the Audubon Parkway on what is now farmland. The city has an agreement for the tract, and a closing date for the property sale has been scheduled in early December.
The budget ordinance amendment includes funding for some capital improvements that had initially be put on hold for FY 2021 and a pay increase for Henderson Police Department officers. It also includes a 1 percent cost of living adjustment for other city employees effective Nov. 30. The HPD has been struggling to find applicants for open positions and it is hoped that the new salary schedule will help attract candidates.
Also finalized was an amendment for the Henderson Water Utility 2021 budget.
The Board of Commissioners met in special session via Zoom.
In other business, the commission:
--Finalized a change in the Code of Ordinances adding a non-exclusive electric franchise that allows Kentucky Utilities to do upgrades in an area of the city it serves.
--Heard a presentation from Parks Director Trace Stevens about an award the Henderson War Memorial Foundation received from the Kentucky Recreation and Parks Society at its annual meeting.
The Commission is scheduled to meet again in a special-called meeting and work session set for Tuesday, Dec. 8th.
