HENDERSON, Ky. - The City of Henderson Board of Commissioners heard a mid-year budget review, a presentation about a new
program proposed for the East End and a presentation about a "lowest law enforcement priority ordinance" at the regular
meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 12.
At the mid-year budget review, Finance Director Robert Gunter offered a brief recap of the General Fund as of Dec. 31, 2020,
and noted that "it was a great start to a difficult year" aided by both CARES Act funding and reduced expenditures.
He said he anticipates that the city will not need to dip into reserve funds in this fiscal year.
The East End program, called Neighborhood Champions, is a two-year community development initiative being organized by
the non-profit organization NuWorks. The presentation was made by state Sen. Robby Mills and other board members of NuWorks.
The "lowest law enforcement priority ordinance" was presented by Grace Henderson of Henderson and Tom Rector of Louisville.
The initiative supports policy that de-prioritizes marijuana enforcement at the local government level.
In other business, the board:
* Passed first reading of an ordinance that changes the signage requirements and restrictions in the Gateway Zone District
as they apply to electronic message signs.
* Approved a routine agreement between the Henderson City-County Rescue Squad, City of Henderson, Henderson County
Fiscal Court and Henderson Emergency Management.
* Passed second reading of an ordinance awarding a 20-year electric system franchise to Kentucky Utilities Company.
The purpose is to allow the utility company to do work in its service area within the city limits.
* Awarded a contract for auditing services to Alexander Thompson Arnold.
The next meeting will take place at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 9. Meetings are still closed to in-person attendance but are
streamed through the Zoom meeting platform, on the city's web site
