City Parks department will plant trees for Arbor Day

HENDERSON, KY, April 26, 2021- The Gathering Place Seniors Citizens Center will get a new Weeping Cherry Tree on April 30th
when the City of Henderson celebrates Arbor Day 2021.
Because of the continuing situation with the COVID-19 virus, the formal celebration of Arbor Day is scaled down for the
second year. There was no Arbor Day Coloring Contest this year for grades K-3 and no formal ceremony for the tree-planting.

The City of Henderson is the recipient of the Tree City USA designation from the Kentucky Divisions of Forestry for the 26th
consecutive year. The Arbor Day Foundation in cooperation with the National Association of State Foresters and the USDA Forest
Service sponsors the Tree City USA program. Tree City USA recognizes communities that have proven their commitment to an
effective, ongoing community forestry program.

"Trees in our city increase property values, enhance the economic vitality of business areas and beautify our community,"
said Mayor Steve Austin. "Trees, wherever they are planted, are a source of joy and spiritual renewal."
