City Commission Adopts Amended Sign Ordinance and Approves Borax Drive Extention


HENDERSON, Ky. - The City of Henderson Board of Commissioners awarded a bid to Hazex Construction for an extension into Borax Drive at the regular 
meeting on Tuesday, July 13.
The Borax Drive extension project will serve Henderson Technology & Industrial Plaza, the city's industrial park located off U.S. 60-West. 
The construction project in the amount of $116,086 is for grading, drainage and stone stabilization.

In other business, the commission:
--Finalized amendments to ordinances to redefine regulations for commercial development signage and the definition of abandoned vehicles.
--Finalized acceptance of public improvements at 985 Cosby Drive and in Canoe Creek II, Section 1.
--Passed first reading amending the ordinance that regulates recreational fires and fire pits. The clarifies materials that may be burned in a 
recreational fire and when a permit is required.
--Heard a proclamation designating July as Parks and Recreation Month.
--Heard a presentation from Human Rights Commission Director Rev. Charles Johnson updating commissioners about the organization's recent activities.
--Presented Wendy Sugg of Henderson Police Department with a 20-year service pin.
--Approved an agreement with Nu-Works for neighborhood revitalization in the East End area of Henderson. Two commissioners also will serve on the 
organization's board.
--Sent an annexation request for property on the Kentucky 425-Bypass to the Henderson City-County Planning Commission for consideration, and also heard 
that two rezonings approved by the Planning Commission (at 1120 Old Madisonville Road and 1121 Harding Ave.) are now in a comment period.
--Heard an update from Finance Director Robert Gunter on American Rescue Plan Act funding for the city.

The next meeting is set for 3 p.m. Tuesday, July 27.
