The Henderson Lions Club raised a record amount of money in the one-night live auction held February 19th at Rookies Sports Bar and Restaurant. After expenses, the club raised nearly $40,000! That’s the most money raised since the club added the one-night auction about five years ago. The club has put on an auction in some form since the early 1950’s.
About 45 items were auctioned off that night including travel packages, golf outings, dining experiences, hand-crafted furniture, top-of-the-line lawn and garden tools, gift certificates and in-demand technology. Ticket sales and donations also accounted for a portion of the money raised the night of the auction. Funds raised at the auction will stay in the community to pay for eyeglasses and eye surgeries for those eligible for assistance, scholarships for local high school seniors and grant donations to local non-profit organizations. The club will soon enter it’s spring scholarship and grant application process.
The next fundraising events coming up for the Henderson Lions Club are the famous Lions Lemonade Booth at the annual Breakfast Lions Tri-Fest and the annual Lions Arts and Crafts Festival at Audubon State Park. That festival is scheduled for the first weekend in October.
