City Commission Meets in Regular Session


HENDERSON, Ky. - It was a day for reports and accolades at the City of Henderson Board of Commissioners meeting on Tuesday, May 10.

The commission:

  *   Heard a proclamation showcasing Economic Development Week and recognized our local ED office for their work as it is "committed to helping our 
      community businesses succeed and grow."
  *   Heard reports on progress on a new fire station, the Riverfront Water Feature work and downtown parking. The water feature is on track to open for    
      Memorial Day weekend.
  *   Heard highlights of the annual report of Henderson-Henderson County Human Rights Commission from the Rev. Charles Johnson, executive director.
  *   Heard a report from IT Director Greg Nunn about receiving a $10,000 Cybersecurity Grant from Kentucky League of Cities.
  *   Heard a report from Tourism Director Abby Dixon, Chamber of Commerce staff members Lindsay Locasto and Clay Gillham and City Attorney Dawn Kelsey 
      about the continuing planning and discussions with business owners for putting an Entertainment Destination Center in place in downtown for permitted 
      events.
  *   Presented a 25-year service award pin to Leigh Ann Herron.
  *   Finalized closing a portion of the public right-of-way along Eighth Street to support a redevelopment project and a change in a job classification 
      for Henderson Police Department.
  *   Passed first reading of an ordinance amending side yard setbacks in R-4 zones.
  *   Increased the pay for Atkinson Pool concession workers and cashiers to $9.00 per hour.
  *   On the consent agenda, approved two sets of minutes.

The date for the next regular meeting of the Board of Commissioners is May 24, 3 p.m. It will take place in the third-floor Assembly Room of the Henderson  
Municipal Center. The Fiscal Year 2023 Budget Work Session is set for 3 p.m. Tuesday, May 17, also in the Assembly Room.
