The (2-0) Henderson County Colonels continued their season by taking on the (3-0) Boyle County Rebels on the road in Danville on the campus of Boyle County High School.
The Colonels started on defense to begin the game and forced the Rebels to punt on their first drive of the game. As a result of the punt, senior running back Jaheim Williams took the punt back for a 51-yard touchdown to give the Colonels a 6-0 lead over the Rebels after the missed PAT with 9:58 to play in the 1st quarter. Then with 10:02 left in the first half, the Rebels junior quarterback Sage Dawson threw an 18-yard touchdown pass to sophomore wide receiver Montavin Quisenberry to put the Rebels up 7-6 after the made PAT. With 59 seconds to play in the first half, the Rebels threw another 18-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Sage Dawson to wide receiver Montavin Quisenberry to give the Rebels a 14-6 lead headed into the locker room at halftime.
To start the second half the Rebels would strike first with a 30-yard field goal by Rebels kicker Cole Andrews to give the Rebels a 17-6 lead with 5:46 to play in the 3rd quarter. Then with 2:07 to play in the 3rd quarter, Colonels kicker Zavier Cruse hit a 36-yard field goal to cut the deficit to 8 points with the score 17-9 in favor of the Rebels. Then with 24 seconds left in the 3rd quarter, Colonel sophomore quarterback Trajdon Davis threw an amazing 31-yard touchdown pass to junior wide receiver Jackson Pendergraft to cut the deficit to 2 points, 17-15. The Colonels then went for the 2-point conversion to try and tie the game and were successful on a run by senior running back Jordan Wright to tie the game at 17. Then with 7:05 to play in the game the Rebels retook the lead with a 4-yard touchdown pass from Rebel quarterback Sage Dawson to wide receiver Montavin Quisenberry to give the Rebels a 24-17 lead over the Colonels. With 2:11 to play in the game, the Rebels scored again on a 36-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Sage Dawson to wide receiver Montavin Quisenberry to give the Rebels a 31-17 lead over the Colonels. The score would remain the same the rest of the way as the Colonels would suffer their first defeat of the season against the Boyle County Rebels 31-17, as the Colonels drop to (2-1) on the season while the Rebels improve to (4-0).
Senior running back Jordan Wright led the Colonels in rushing tonight with 8 carries for 55 yards on the night.
The Colonels as a team had 102 yards rushing and 49 yards passing with 8 first downs on the night. The Colonels defense gave up 145 yards rushing and 148 yards passing and 12 first downs while forcing a turnover on the night.
The Colonels will take on the Central Hardin Bruins next Friday night, September 16th, at home at Colonel Stadium with the kickoff set for 7:00 P.M.
