The (2-1) Henderson County Colonels continued their season by taking on the (4-0) Central Hardin Bruins at home in Henderson at Colonel Stadium.
The Colonels opened up the game on offense in which the Colonels would end up scoring first with 4:22 left to play in the second quarter as it was senior running back Jordan Wright for a 3-yard touchdown run as it gave the Colonels a 7-0 lead over the Bruins. Then with 2:39 to play in the first half, the Bruins would score on a 10-yard touchdown run by junior running back Mason Gardner and after the made PAT the Bruins would tie it at 7-7. The Colonels would strike again, this time through the air from sophomore quarterback Trajdon Davis to his senior tight end Turner Mattingly for a 25-yard touchdown pass, as after the missed PAT the Colonels would retake the lead to be ahead 13-7 with 1:11 to play in the first half. Then the Bruins would respond with a 60-yard touchdown by junior quarterback Zak Spurrier with 35 seconds to go in the first half. The score at halftime would be 14-13 in favor of the Bruins over the Colonels.
The Colonels would start the second half by playing solid defense and the first score would come from the Colonels as it would be sophomore quarterback Trajdon Davis to junior wide receiver Jackson Pendergraft for a 34-yard touchdown pass with 6:36 to play in the third quarter as the Colonels would retake the lead 20-14. The next Colonel possession on offense and the Colonels would strike again as this time it was sophomore quarterback Trajdon Davis to junior wide receiver Jackson Pendergraft for a 37-yard touchdown pass with 2:58 to play in the third quarter as the Colonels would go up 26-14 after the missed PAT. Then with 1:41 to play in the third quarter, Colonel sophomore quarterback Trajdon Davis scored a quarterback keeper for a 4-yard touchdown run to put the Colonels up 32-14 as the Colonels failed to convert the 2-point conversion. With 39 seconds left to play in the third quarter, Bruins junior quarterback Zak Spurrier would score on a quarterback keeper for a 6-yard touchdown run to narrow the score to 32-22 in favor of Henderson after the successful 2-point conversion. The last scoring drive for both teams was when Colonel senior running back Jaheim Williams ran for an 85-yard touchdown run to give the Colonels a 38-22 lead over the Bruins with 7:21 to play in the fourth quarter. The score would remain the same the rest of the way as the Colonels would win their 3rd game on the season against the Central Hardin Bruins 38-22, as the Colonels move to (3-1) while the Bruins suffer their first loss of the season and fall to (4-1) on the season.
Colonel sophomore quarterback Trajdon Davis was 5 for 9 for 165 yards passing and threw 3 passing touchdowns on the night. Senior running back Jaheim Williams led the team in rushing on the night with 4 carries for 122 yards and a touchdown. The other senior running back Jordan Wright had 20 carries for 86 yards and a touchdown while sophomore quarterback Trajdon Davis had 10 carries for 58 yards and a touchdown on the night. The leading receiver on the night was junior wide receiver, Jackson Pendergraft, with 3 receptions for 89 yards and 2 touchdowns on the night.
The Colonels as a team had 266 rushing yards and 3 rushing touchdowns while also having 165 passing yards and 3 passing touchdowns on the night. The Colonels had 431 total yards of offense tonight while having 9 first downs and was 3 for 8 on third down. The Colonels defensively allowed the Bruins 5 passing yards and 242 yards of total offense on the night. The Colonels defense allowed 14 first downs. The Colonels had 11 penalties for 97 yards while the Bruins had 7 penalties for 50 yards.
The Colonels will take on the Paducah Tilghman Blue Tornado next Friday night, September 23rd, on the road in Paducah with the kickoff set for 7:00 P.M.
