The Henderson County Colonels took down the Paducah Tilghman Blue Tornado 30-13 at McRight Field on the campus of Paducah Tilghman High School in Paducah.
This week the (4-1) Colonels are at home at Colonel Stadium.
The Colonels are at the midpoint of the season, Coach Boston discusses all three sides of his team, his defense first, then his offense and lastly his special teams and hands out some midterm grades at the halfway point. Boston says, “Very good on early downs. We’ve given up some touchdowns in the secondary on third and longs and fourth downs that we’ve got to make sure we get off the field on. We’re doing a great job on the scheduled downs, on 1st and 10, 2 and 5, really doing a good job on 3rd and short. Offensively, it’s come down to some missed opportunities. Early in the season we were scoring fast, getting off the ball. We’ve missed some things as we’ve tried to expand the offense and add some things in. Offensively, we’re in the right position. We’re not turning the ball over, we’re taking care of the football. We’re in the position to make the play, we’ve just got to make sure that over these next couple weeks that we’re improving in that and when it’s our chance to make the play to move the chains or pick up the touchdown that we’re doing that. Special teams wise I think we’re off to a great start. Five games in we’ve already blocked 2 punts, we’ve already had a punt return for a touchdown. We’ve had some big kickoff returns that have gotten us great field position.”
Henderson County Colonel Head Football Coach Josh Boston talks about tonight’s matchup against Marshall County, “Pretty solid running game. They’ve got 3 running backs sitting there with 300 yards (each) or more rushing and so they’re doing a good job of getting those guys downhill. They’ve struggled throwing the football, (their) quarterback hasn’t been protected well, he’s got -18 yards rushing on the season a lot of that comes into sacks. They are using their formations, getting into some big sets, tight end sets, and in the eye and under center and things like that to get the ball downhill. We’ve got to do a good job of stopping the run against them (Marshall)” Boston added.
When asked the keys to beating the Marshals at home, Boston says, “Like I said earlier, we’ve got to take care of us. We can’t worry about who we’re playing, we can’t think we’re the favorite coming into this game. We’ve got to use it as a stepping stone to make sure that we keep the momentum going and everything that we’ve built so far to improve to get better every single week.”
The Colonels are ranked 7th in this week’s AP Kentucky High School Football Class 6A rankings.
Senior Saadiq Clements has 12 defensive sacks on the season through 5 games which leads the state in defensive sacks.
Kickoff for tonight’s game against the (3-3) Marshall County Marshals is at 7:00 PM at Colonel Stadium as it is Homecoming night for the Colonels.
