The Henderson County Colonels took down the Marshall County Marshals 49-7 at Colonel Stadium on Homecoming night.
This week the (5-1) Colonels are on the road in Owensboro in a big District game.
Henderson County Colonel Head Football Coach Josh Boston talks about tonight’s matchup against the Apollo Eagles, “Skill wise they’ve got the same guys from last year. They can make plays at any point in time, you’ve got to make sure that you’re sound and disciplined. Advantage wise, I think upfront on both sides of the ball we’ve got the advantage but we’ve got to do a good job of being disciplined in the secondary (and) on the perimeter to make sure that we don’t give up big plays. Also protecting our quarterback offensively and getting our guys the ball on the perimeter and letting them make plays. They (Apollo) have had some chemistry issues leading up through the season so far. (Their) record is not great but they’ve got the guys to put together the team they had last year, they just haven’t been able to do it yet. You don’t know when it’s going to happen, you don’t know when their chemistry is going to click and so you’ve got to make sure that you take care of yourself and go out and do the things you’re capable of doing,” Boston added.
When asked about Apollo’s personnel, both offensively and defensively and the Eagles quarterback, Boston says “(Apollo’s Quarterback Christian) Combs is their leading rusher. This will be the first time in awhile that we’ve seen the quarterback as the leading rusher. Combs can get you in space, they like to do a lot of sprint out stuff, get him out of the pocket, get him on the perimeter. You’ve got to make sure that your sound on your protections and everything to get him covered when he does get out of the pocket. We’ve got to make sure that we keep him contained and keep our eyes on him at all times.”
When asked the keys to beating the Eagles on the road, Boston says, “Just have our minds right. Making sure that we’re taking care of ourselves, doing the things we’re good at, capitalizing on any mistakes they might make and not leaving any opportunities on the field and playing a clean football game.”
The Colonels are ranked 5th in this week’s AP Kentucky High School Football Class 6A rankings.
This Colonels offense through 6 games has put up 1,400 plus yards on the ground and rushed for 24 touchdowns. The Colonels defense has 6 forced fumbles, 24 tackles for loss and 23 sacks.
