Colonels Look to Keep the 4 Game Winning Streak Alive against District Opponent Daviess County Panthers in Week 8

By Ryan Davenport, WSON Sports Correspondent

The Henderson County Colonels took down the Apollo Eagles 62-28 on the road at Eagle Stadium in Owensboro in a big district matchup.

This week the (6-1) Colonels are at home at Colonel Stadium in a huge District game.

Henderson County Colonel Head Football Coach Josh Boston talks about tonight’s matchup against the Daviess County Panthers, “Very, very athletic in the skill positions offensively. They do a good job of getting the ball in their guys hands. Decker Renfrow (wide receiver for Daviess County) who’s been a four year starter for them. Very, very elusive receiver (Renfrow) catches the ball great, he’s their leading receiver. He makes a lot of plays for them. He plays free safety for them on defense and roams the middle of the field. He’s got a lot of picks on the year, sits back there and does a good job of being a ball hawk and going and getting the ball when it’s in the air. Defensively, they try to create confusion, they’re going to load the box, they’re going to blitz, they’re going to come after you. They are going to play man coverage with their guys in behind it and they try to create problems in the box to try to help their secondary have success,” Boston added.

When asked the keys to beating the Panthers at home in a big district game, Boston says, “Got to play mistake free. Kicking game is going to come in big tonight and so we’ve got to make sure that we don’t have any mistakes in the kicking game. We put an extra emphasis on that this week, a lot more reps in the kicking game in practice and so (the) kicking game is going to come down to a deciding factor and so we’ve got to make sure we’re taking business in that part of the game too.”

The Colonels are ranked 4th in this week’s AP Kentucky High School Football Class 6A rankings.

Senior defensive lineman for the Colonels Saadiq Clements leads the state of Kentucky in sacks this season with 15.5 sacks.

The Panthers come into this game with over 1,200 plus passing yards and over 1,000 rushing yards on the season.
