The Henderson County Colonels took down the Daviess County Panthers 73-35 at home at Colonel Stadium in Henderson in a big district matchup.
This week the (7-1) Colonels are on the road at Marquette Stadium in Paducah in a huge Class 6A District 1 game.
Henderson County Colonel Head Football Coach Josh Boston talks about tonight’s matchup against the McCracken County Mustangs, “Their (McCracken) quarterback ( Pryor Lamb) is a four year starter and they’re finally starting to use him more. The past three years he hasn’t run the football, you know he’s just sat back there and handed it off and thrown it when he needed to. (He’s) kind of a one dimensional and you know this year they’re using him more in the run game and to keep teams honest. They’re a good football team, their record doesn’t reflect it. You can’t look at them as a (2-6) football team because they’re not. They’ve got (a good) quarterback Lamb, they have a track kid out at wide receiver and he can fly. Like I said Lamb throws a good ball, he can get it to him (McCracken’s wide receiver) on the deep ball. (McCracken’s) running back (is) not flashy but he runs the ball hard and gets the yards he needs to, (he) doesn’t necessarily make the big plays but keeps their offense moving in the right direction,” Boston added.
When asked the keys to beating the Mustangs on the road in a big district game, Boston says, “Just got to play a clean game. Last week, there was one drive that our emotions got us. There was one drive last week where we got 60 yards in penalties, just on one defensive drive. Started off with two roughing the passer (penalties), which you know were maybe questionable but our kids didn’t really slow up enough to not get the call. They were playing fast and that’s the one thing, you don’t want to slow your kids down, you want them to play fast, you want them to play physical.”
The Colonels are ranked 4th in this week’s AP Kentucky High School Football Class 6A rankings.
Senior defensive lineman for the Colonels Saadiq Clements leads the state of Kentucky in sacks this season with 17 sacks.
The Mustangs come into this game with over 1,092 passing yards and over 1,092 rushing yards on the season while the Colonels have 1,044 passing yards and 2,112 rushing yards on the season. The Colonels two headed monster at running back Jordan Wright and Jaheim Williams have combined for 22 rushing touchdowns on the season while the Mustangs as a team only have 13 rushing touchdowns on the season.
