The Henderson County Colonels took down the McCracken County Mustangs 43-7 on the road at Marquette Stadium in Paducah in a big Class 6A District 1 matchup.

This week the (8-1) Colonels are at Colonel Stadium in Henderson in a big rivalry game on Senior Night.

Henderson County Colonel Head Football Coach Josh Boston talks about tonight’s matchup against the Owensboro Red Devils, “Very talented. (They) had an open loss to St. (Xavier), lost by two touchdowns (in) a very competitive game. (Owensboro) had some injuries and kind of let one go versus Owensboro Catholic. Owensboro Catholic took advantage of some Owensboro turnovers and ran the football, and just ran the clock out, didn’t let Owensboro have the football back. That one got away from them but other than that they have had big wins. Their district’s not the strongest district but as far as the way they’re executing and playing the game. Very talented running back, Kenyatta Carbon, he’s got half of their yards just himself on the season. He’s got as many rushing yards as they do passing yards as a team. He’s the guy, he can make a play at any point in time, he can take and put his foot in the ground and take 160 (pounds) to the end zone. (Carbon) He’s one of those guys you’ve got to stop. (Owensboro’s) quarterback does a great job of managing the game, and does a good job of getting the ball to his playmakers hands,” Boston added.

Coach Boston was asked what Owensboro brings defensively this season, Boston says, “Lots of speed, they’re going to mix in their packages. (Owensboro’s) secondary got a lot of speed. They’re going to let things happen in front of them and then keep you from making the big play. It’s one of those types of things where you have to make sure you line up every play and execute every single down.”

When asked the keys to beating the Red Devils at home on Senior Night, Josh Boston said, “We’ve got to be the team with the least amount of mistakes, that’s what it is going to come down to. We’ve got to make sure we contain Kenyatta (Carbon) in the back field, we can’t let him get loose and make them line up and execute the next play and try to make Kasey Boone the quarterback beat us by making them do that.”

The Colonels are ranked 3rd in this week’s AP Kentucky High School Football Class 6A rankings.

Senior defensive lineman for the Colonels Saadiq Clements leads the state of Kentucky in sacks this season with 18 sacks. As a team, the Colonels are 3rd in the state in sacks with 35.

The Colonels as a team are 6th in points per game in the state while 12th in margin points per game. The Colonels as a team are also 15th in rushing yards per game and 11th in rushing yards allowed per game.

The Colonels as a team 9 games in have 1,130 yards passing and 2,492 rushing yards on the season. The Colonels have 16 passing touchdowns and 38 rushing touchdowns on the season.
