Colonels Take Down the Green Wave in the Class 6A State Playoffs With Huge Win Against Meade County

The (9-2) Henderson County Colonels continued the Kentucky High School Football Class 6A State Playoffs at home by taking on the (6-5) Meade County Green Wave at Colonel Stadium in Henderson.

 

The Green Wave won the coin toss but elected to defer to get the football to start the second half. So it would be the Colonels to get the football first, in which, the Colonels would have to punt to the Green Wave and in return the Green Wave would turn it over on downs with their first possession. The Colonels second drive would end in another punt and the Green Wave would miss a 24 yard field goal on their second drive. On the third drive of the game for the Colonels it was a 80 yard touchdown run by senior running back Jaheim Williams, as after the made PAT, the Colonels would have a 7-0 lead over the Green Wave with 1:20 to play in the first quarter. The Colonels would force the Green Wave to punt  as the Colonels would answer with a 10 play 78 yard drive that ended with a 1 yard touchdown run by senior running back Jordan Wright, as after the made PAT, the Colonels would take a 14-0 lead with 5:47 to play in the first half. The Colonels would be the next to score as the Colonels would cap off a 6 play 51 yard drive with a 3 yard touchdown run from senior running back Jaheim Williams, as after the made PAT, the Colonels would extend their lead to 21-0 lead over the Green Wave with 44 seconds to play in the first half. The halftime score would be a 21-0 shutout lead for the Colonels over the Green Wave.

 

In the second half, the Colonels would strike first on a 10 yard touchdown pass from sophomore quarterback Trajdon Davis to junior wide receiver Koien Banks, as after the made PAT, the Colonels would take a 28-0 lead over the Green Wave with 8:19 to play in the third quarter. In the fourth quarter, the Colonels would cap off a 7 play 79 yard drive with a 12 yard touchdown run from senior running back Jordan Wright, as after the made PAT, the Colonels would extend their lead to 35-0 lead over the Green Wave with 5:44 to play in the game. The Green Wave would execute a 5 play 65 yard drive with a 42 yard touchdown run from senior running back Jacob Lacefield, as after the failed two point conversion, the Colonels deficit was cut to 35-6 lead over the Mean Green with 4:32 to play in the game. Neither team would score again as the final score would be a 35-6 win for the Colonels over the Green Wave in the second round of the Class 6A State Playoffs. The Colonels improve to (10-2) on the season while the Green Wave end their season with a (6-6) record. 

Colonel sophomore quarterback Trajdon Davus was 9 for 11 with 87 yards passing while throwing one touchdown on the night. Senior running back Jordan Wright rushed 13 times with 153 rushing yards and 2 rushing touchdowns while senior running back Jaheim Williams rushed 5 times for 110 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns on the night. 

 

Senior running back Jordan Wright finished the game as passing into 6th all time in career rushing yards in Colonel history.

 

The Colonels as a team, had 334 yards rushing and 87 yards passing for a total of 421 yards of offense on the night. The Colonel’s defense held the Green Wave to 170 yards rushing and 114 passing yards on the night, as the Colonels forced 1 turnover and only 2 punts on the night. 

 

The Colonels will take on the (8-4) Louisville Male Bulldogs next Friday night, November 18th, on the road in Louisville with the kickoff time TBD.
