The Henderson County Colonels took down the Meade County Green Wave 35-6 at Colonel Stadium in Henderson in the 2nd round of the Class 6A State Football Playoffs.
This week the (10-2) Colonels are on the road in Louisville at Maxwell Field in the 3rd round of the Playoffs.
Henderson County Colonel Head Football Coach Josh Boston talks about tonight’s matchup against the Louisville Male Bulldogs, “Good team. (Their) Running back is a good football player. He actually didn’t play in some of their losses, and was kind of the difference they kind of had to change offensively what they were doing. He’s a difference maker, he’s almost six foot, 215 pounds, and he likes to get downhill, run the stretch game, runs the counter game so he’s the guy you have to stop. In the secondary, you know we got to make sure we’re disciplined with our eyes. We can’t have our eyes in the backfield and let them (put) you to sleep with the running game. That’s what they do, they get you in there and then they like to take deep shots and coming up safety wise and making tackles,” Boston added.
Coach Boston was asked what some advantages the Colonels might have against the Bulldogs and Boston responded with this, “We’ve got to win upfront. That advantage has to come because of us, that’s not just going to be a straight up advantage, it’s going to be something that we have to empower our will and win the defensive line and win the offensive line. It’s going to be one of those things we have to manage and it’s not necessarily an advantage but it’s something that we’ve got to make happen.”
When asked the keys to beating the Bulldogs on the road in the 3rd round of the Class 6A State Playoffs, Josh Boston said, “Stop (number) 7 (Daniel Swinney). He’s the key. You’ve got to limit his yards, he’s going to get the football 30 times tonight. We’ve got to make sure we’re aggressive on him and try to make them as one dimensional as possible.”
Senior defensive lineman for the Colonels Saadiq Clements is 2nd in the state of Kentucky in sacks this season with 20 sacks. As a team, the Colonels are 2nd in the state in sacks with 40.
