The (10-2) Henderson County Colonels continued the Kentucky High School Football Class 6A State Playoffs on the road by taking on the (8-4) Louisville Male Bulldogs at Maxwell Field in Louisville.
The Colonels got the football to start the game in which the Bulldogs defense forced a three and out. On the Bulldogs first possession of the game they would cap off the drive with a 47 yard touchdown run by the senior quarterback Lucas Cobler, as after the made PAT, the Bulldogs took an early 7-0 lead over the Colonels with 9:55 to play in the first quarter. The next team to score would be the Bulldogs as they would score on a 70 yard touchdown run by the senior quarterback Lucas Cobler, as after the missed PAT, the Bulldogs held a 13-0 lead over the Colonels with 2:49 to play in the first half. The score would remain a 13-0 lead for Male over the Colonels at halftime.
In the second half, the Bulldogs would strike first with a 40 yard field goal made by senior kicker Lance Gossett to give the Bulldogs a 16-0 lead over the Colonels with 8:50 to play in the third quarter. The Colonels would respond with a 43 yard field goal of their own from sophomore kicker Carson Weiss to narrow the Bulldogs lead to 16-3 with 3:48 to play in the third quarter. The Colonels would respond on their next drive with a 6 play 54 yard drive that included a 38 yard pass from sophomore quarterback Trajdon Davis to senior tight end Turner Mattingly that would lead to a 3 yard touchdown run by senior running back Jordan Wright, as after the made PAT, the Colonels would narrow the Bulldogs lead to 16-10 with 54 seconds to play in the third quarter. The Bulldogs would cap their final drive of the game off with a 3 yard touchdown run from senior running back Daniel Swinney, as after the made PAT, the Bulldogs would extend their lead to 23-10 with 2:44 to play in the game. Neither team would score again as the final score would be a 23-10 defeat for the Colonels against the Bulldogs in the third round of the Class 6A State Playoffs. The Colonels end the season with a (10-3) record while the Bulldogs improve to (9-4) record on the season.
Colonel sophomore quarterback Trajdon Davis was 7 for 14 with 101 yards passing while throwing one interception on the night. Senior running back Jordan Wright rushed 13 times with 46 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown while senior running back Jaheim Williams rushed 4 times for 11 rushing yards on the night.
The Colonels as a team, had 80 yards rushing and 101 yards passing for a total of 181 yards of offense on the night.
Senior running back Jordan Wright finished the game and his career as passing into 5th all time in career rushing yards in Colonel history with a total of 2,770 career rushing yards. Senior running back Jaheim Williams finished his career 9th all time in career rushing yards in Colonel history with a total of 2,311 career rushing yards.
Senior defensive lineman and Purdue University commit Saadiq Clements ended the season with 22 sacks.
The Colonels season didn’t end the way they wanted it to but had a really strong season by playing in the 3rd round of the Class 6A Playoffs and finishing the season with 10 wins.
