The Henderson County Lady Colonels faced off against the Evansville Central Lady Bears on the road in Evansville.
The Lady Colonels in the first two games this season combined for 47 turnovers. In the first minute of the game the Lady Colonels had 4 turnovers and trailed 11-0 early in the game. The Lady Colonels would outscore the Lady Bears 14-5 the rest of the first quarter to make the score 16-14 Lady Bears with a two point lead heading into the second quarter. In the second quarter, senior guard Mallorie Veal and senior forward Jarie Thomas would combine for 14 points as the Lady Colonels would outscore the Lady Bears 22-7, as the Lady Colonels held a 13 point lead over the Lady Bears at halftime with the score 36-23.
To begin the second half, Mallorie Veal would score 8 of her 18 points in the third quarter as the Lady Colonels would outscore the Lady Bears 15-9, as heading into the fourth quarter the Lady Colonels would have a 51-32 lead over the Lady Bears. In the fourth and final quarter, it would be the defense of the Lady Colonels continuing to hold the Lady Bears as the Lady Colonels would outscore them 20-10, as the Lady Colonels would come away with their second win of the season taking down the Lady Bears with the final score 71-42. The Lady Colonels improve to (2-1) on the season while the Lady Bears fall to (5-7).
The leading scorer for the Lady Colonels was senior forward Jarie Thomas with 21 points and 7 rebounds while also with one blocked shot on the night. Senior guard Mallorie Veal with 18 points while knocking down 2 three pointers and grabbing 5 rebounds. Senior guard Graci Risley and sophomore forward Brooklyn Gibson both scored 8 points and both grabbed 6 rebounds on the night. Sophomore guard Shalyn Sprinkles tallied 6 points while freshman forward A’Tylia Green added points. Senior guard Savannah Lacer scored 3 points while sophomore guard Allyson Rideout added 2 points.
As a team, the Lady Colonels shot 3 for 6 from the free throw line while knocking down 6 three pointers and grabbing 33 total team rebounds and had 11 turnovers. The Lady Colonels forced the Lady Bears to commit 20 turnovers on the night.
