The Henderson County Colonels faced off against the Madisonville-North Hopkins Maroons on the road at Maroon Gym in Madisonville.
In the first quarter, the Maroons would outscore the Colonels 18-15 heading into the second quarter. In the second quarter, the Colonels would outscore the Maroons 16-8, as the score at halftime was a 5 point lead for the Colonels with the score 31-26.
To begin the second half, the Colonels would double the Maroons score in the quarter outsourcing them 24-12 as senior guard Gerard Thomas contributed 10 points in the third quarter as the Colonels would lead by 17, 55-38, heading into the final quarter. In the fourth quarter, senior guard Gerard Thomas and sophomore guard Cooper Davenport would combine for 19 of the Colonels 23 points in the quarter as the Colonels would outscore the Maroons 23-19, as the Colonels pull off the upset over the Maroons with the final score being 78-57. The Colonels improve to (2-2) on the season while the Maroons fall to (3-1).
The leading scorer for the Colonels was senior guard Gerard Thomas with 29 points while shooting 11 for 16 from the free throw line and grabbing 7 rebounds on the night. Sophomore guard Cooper Davenport scored 19 points while shooting 10 for 11 from the free throw line and grabbed 3 rebounds. Junior guard Alec Satterfield tallied 10 points and 9 rebounds while sophomore guard Lacon McKinney contributed 10 points and 3 rebounds. To round out the scoring for the Colonels, senior forward Jake Rideout scored 8 points and had 6 rebounds while Cole Branson added 2 points on the night.
Senior guard for the Maroons Marcus Eaves had a double double with a team high 21 points and 12 rebounds while shooting 11 for 21 from the free throw line on the night.
As a team, the Colonels shot 25 for 35 from the free throw line (71%) while shooting 1 for 9 from the three point line (11%) and grabbed 31 rebounds while committing 9 turnovers on the night.
The Colonels will take on the Rossview Hawks from Clarksville, Tennessee on Saturday, December 10th, with the tip-off at 12:30 P.M. in the Kentucky-Tennessee Classic.
