Soft Zone Leads to Lady Colonels Shooting Lights Out

The Henderson County Lady Colonels faced off against the Massac County Lady Patriots on the road at McCracken County High School Paducah in the Holiday Hoopla Classic.

 

In the first quarter, the Lady Colonels outscored the Lady Patriots 12-10 heading into the second quarter. In the second quarter, senior guard Mallorie Veal scored 15 of her 17 points by knocking down 5 three pointers, as the Lady Colonels outscored the Lady Patriots 27-12, as the Lady Colonels held a 17 point lead over the Lady Patriots at halftime with the score 39-22.

 

To begin the second half, senior guard Graci Risley and sophomore guard Shalyn Sprinkles would combine for 17 points and the Lady Colonels defense was great as the Lady Colonels would outscore the Lady Patriots 25-5, as heading into the fourth quarter the Lady Colonels would have a 64-27 lead over the Lady Patriots. In the fourth and final quarter, the Lady Colonels would outcore the Lady Patriots 8-4, as the Lady Colonels would come away with their third win in a row taking down the Lady Patriots with the final score 72-31. The Lady Colonels improve to (3-1) on the season while the Lady Patriots fall to (8-2).

 

The leading scorer for the Lady Colonels was senior guard Graci Risley with 20 points while shooting 6 for 9 from the three point line while also being named the Holiday Hoopla Classic MVP. Senior guard Mallorie Veal scored 17 points while shooting 2 for 2 from the free throw line and 5 for 8 from the three point line and grabbed 4 rebounds. Sophomore guard Shalyn Sprinkles contributed 13 points while shooting 3 for 9 from the three point line while senior forward Jarie Thomas tallied 11 points while shooting 2 for 2 from the free throw line. Sophomore guard Allyson Rideout added 4 points while Rashia Cansler and A’Tylia Green had 2 points each. To round out the scoring for the Lady Colonels, freshman forward Brooklyn Gibson tallied 2 points and 7 rebounds while sophomore forward Anna Kemp added 1 point and 4 rebounds on the day.

As a team, the Lady Colonels shot 5 for 6 from the free throw line while shooting 15 for 29 (51%) from the three point line and grabbing 25 rebounds on the day. 

 

The Lady Colonels will take on the Evansville Mater Dei Lady Wildcats on Tuesday night, December 13th, on the road in Evansville.
