The Henderson County Colonels faced off against the University Heights Blazers on the road in Hopkinsville.
In the first quarter, the Blazers outscored the Colonels 18-15 heading into the second quarter. In the second quarter, the Blazers would outscore the Colonels 13-8, as the score at halftime was a 8 point lead for the Blazers with the score 31-23.
To begin the second half, both teams would have a sloppy third quarter with the Blazers outsourcing the Colonels 9-6 with all 6 points coming from sophomore guard Lacon McKinney, as the Colonels trailed the Blazers by 11, 40-29, headed into the fourth and final quarter. In the fourth quarter, the Blazers would outscore the Colonels 21-20, as the Colonels turnovers would be a big part in the loss with the final score 61-49. The Blazers improve to (3-1) on the season while the Colonels fall to (3-3).
The leading scorer for the Colonels was sophomore guard Lacon McKinney with 14 points and 3 rebounds while sophomore guard Cooper Davenport scored 10 points and added 3 rebounds while shooting 2 for 2 from the free throw line while knocking down two three pointers. Senior guard Gerard Thomas tallied 8 points while shooting 6 for 8 from the free throw line and grabbing 12 rebounds and having 2 blocks on the night. Sophomore guard Dwaine Moss contributed 7 points while senior forward Jake Rideout scored 6 points. To round out the scoring for the Colonels, junior guard Alec Satterfield added 4 points and 3 rebounds.
As a team, the Colonels shot 10 for 12 from the free throw line while shooting 3 for 9 from the three point line and grabbed 28 rebounds on the night while having 18 turnovers.
University Heights senior guard Lemar Northington scored 16 points and had 3 rebounds while sophomore forward Elijah Walton added 13 points and 11 rebounds with 2 blocks on the night.
The Colonels will take on the Princeton Tigers on Saturday morning, December 17th, with the tip-off at 11:00 A.M. at Bosse High School in Evansville in the Bosse Winter Classic.
