Slow Start But Fast Finish For Lady Colonels

The Henderson County Lady Colonels faced off against the Castle Lady Knights from Newburgh, Indiana at home in Henderson.

 

In the first quarter, the Lady Knights came out and held a 12 point lead at one point and outscored the Lady Colonels 19-14, heading into the second quarter. In the second quarter, the Lady Colonels freshman forward Brooklyn Gibson scored 12 points as the Lady Colonels would outscore the Lady Knights 21-9, as the Lady Colonels held a 7 point lead over the Lady Knights at halftime with the score 35-28.

 

To begin the second half, the Lady Colonels outscored the Lady Knights 12-11, as heading into the fourth quarter the Lady Colonels would have a 47-39 lead over the Lady Knights. In the fourth and final quarter, the Lady Colonels would again outscore the Lady Knights 11-7, as the Lady Colonels would come away with a 12 point victory over the Castle Lady Knights with the final score 58-46. The Lady Colonels improve to (5-1) on the season while the Lady Knights fall to (7-7).

 

The leading scorer for the Lady Colonels was senior guard Graci Risley with 16 points while knocking down 3 three pointers on the night. Senior forward Jarie Thomas scored 14 points while shooting 8 for 8 from the free throw line and 7 rebounds while freshman forward Brooklyn Gibson contributed 14 points while shooting 4 for 5 from the free throw line and grabbed 9 rebounds. Senior guard Mallorie Veal tallied 5 points and 4 rebounds while sophomore guard Shalyn Sprinkles added 4 points. To round out the scoring for the Lady Colonels, sophomore forward Anna Kemp scored 4 points and 10 rebounds while senior guard Savannah Lacer added 2 points and 7 rebounds on the night.

The Lady Knights had two players in double figures, Jayden Scott with 20 points and her sister Jordan Scott with 17 points.

 

As a team, the Lady Colonels shot 5 for 17 (29%) from the three point line while shooting 15 for 19 (78%) from the free throw line while grabbing 44 rebounds and committing 26 turnovers on the night.

 

The Lady Colonels will take on Forest Park from Ferdinand, Indiana on Wednesday night, December 21st, at 5:15 P.M. from the Owensboro SportsCenter in the Independence Bank Kentucky-Indiana Classic.
