Colonels Win to Start Christmas Break

The Henderson County Colonels faced off against the Princeton Tigers from Princeton, Indiana on the road in Evansville at Bosse High School in the Bosse Winter Classic.

 

In the first quarter, the Colonels outscored the Tigers 18-16 heading into the second quarter. In the second quarter, the Colonels struggled and the Tigers would outscore the Colonels 15-11, as at halftime was a 4 point lead for the Tigers with the score 31-29. 

 

To begin the second half, both teams would have a sloppy third quarter with the Colonels outscoring the Tigers 11-7, as the Colonels held a 2 point lead over the Tigers with the score 40-38, headed into the fourth and final quarter. In the fourth quarter, the Colonels would outscore the Tigers 19-9, as the Colonels would come away with a 12 point win over the Tigers with the final score 59-47. The Colonels improve to (4-3) on the season while the Tigers  fall to (4-3).

 

The leading scorer for the Colonels was senior guard Gerard Thomas with a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds while shooting 2 for 3 from the free throw line on the day. Sophomore guard Dwaine Moss scored 13 points while knocking down 3 three pointers while sophomore guard Cooper Davenport tallied 10 points while knocking down 2 three pointers and shooting 2 for 2 from the free throw line. Senior forward Jake Rideout contributed 9 points and 8 rebounds while shooting 3 for 3 from the free throw line while sophomore forward Lacon McKinney scored 9 points and had 5 rebounds. To round out the scoring for the Colonels, sophomore forward Trajdon Davis added 2 points and 3 rebounds on the day. Junior guard Alec Satterfield was out for the game due to a sprained ankle.

As a team, the Colonels shot 7 for 8 from the free throw line while knocking down 6 three pointers and grabbed 34 rebounds on the night while having 15 turnovers. During the game, the Tigers biggest lead was 4 and the Colonels was 12 while there were 8 lead changes and 5 ties.

 

The Colonels will take on the Lincoln County Patriots on Tuesday afternoon, December 20th, at 3:45 P.M. ET / 2:45 P.M. CT at Lexington Christian Academy in Lexington in the Central Bank Jim Rose Classic.
