Colonels, Behind Thomas 22 Points Lead to Win

The Henderson County Colonels faced off against the Scott County Cardinals yesterday afternoon, December 21st, in Lexington at Lexington Christian Academy in the Central Bank Jim Rose Classic for game number two of the tournament. 

 

In the first quarter, the Colonels outscored the Cardinals 13-11 heading into the second quarter. In the second quarter, the Cardinals outscored the Colonels 15-12, as at halftime was a 1 point lead for the Cardinals with the score 26-25.

 

To begin the second half, the Colonels would outscore the Cardinals 18-13, as the Colonels would hold a 4 point lead over the Cardinals with the score 43-39, headed into the fourth and final quarter. In the fourth quarter, senior guard for the Colonels, Gerard Thomas, had 8 points and 2 rebounds in the quarter as the Colonels would outscore the Cardinals 21-19, as the Colonels would come away with a 6 point win over the Cardinals with the final score 64-58. The Colonels improve to (5-4) on the season while the Cardinals drop to (3-7).

The leading scorer for the Colonels was senior guard Gerard Thomas with 22 points, 8 assists, 6 rebounds, 3 steals while shooting 5 for 6 from the free throw line on the day. Sophomore forward Lacon McKinney scored 13 points with 5 rebounds while senior forward Jake Rideout contributed 12 points with 5 rebounds and shot 4 for 4 from the free throw line. Junior guard Alec Satterfield recorded 8 points and 5 assists while sophomore guard Dwaine Moss tallied 7 points. To round out the scoring for the Colonels, sophomore forward Trajdon Davis added 2 points and 4 rebounds on the day. 

As a team, the Colonels shot 12 for 13 (92%) from the free throw line while shooting 2 for 13 (15%) from the three and grabbed 25 rebounds on the day. The Colonels also committed 15 turnovers and recorded 17 assists, 1 block and 8 steals on the day.
