Despite Defensive Struggle, Lady Colonels Get Big Win

The Henderson County Lady Colonels faced off against the Forest Park Lady Rangers from Ferdinand, Indiana at the SportsCenter in Owensboro last night in the Independence Bank Kentucky-Indiana Classic.

 

In the first quarter, the Lady Colonels outscored the Lady Rangers 17-12, as senior forward for the Lady Colonels, Jarie Thomas, scored 8 points in the quarter heading into the second quarter. In the second quarter, the Lady Colonels outscored the Lady Rangers 10-4, as the Lady Colonels held a 11 point lead over the Lady Rangers at halftime with the score 27-16.

 

To begin the second half, both teams scored 7 points in the third quarter, as heading into the fourth quarter the Lady Colonels would have a 34-23 lead over the Lady Rangers. In the fourth and final quarter, the Lady Rangers would outscore the Lady Colonels 14-7, but despite the defensive struggles in the quarter, the Lady Colonels would come away with a 4 point victory over the Lady Rangers with the final score 41-37. The Lady Colonels improve to (6-1) on the season while the Lady Rangers fall to (12-2).

 

The leading scorer for the Lady Colonels was senior forward Jarie Thomas with 19 points while shooting 3 for 4 from the free throw line on the night. Senior guard Mallorie Veal scored 10 points while knocking down 2 three pointers while sophomore guard Shalyn Sprinkles contributed 6 points by knocking down 2 three pointers. To round out the scoring for the Lady Colonels, sophomore forward Anna Kemp tallied 4 points while senior guard Savannah Lacer added 2 points on the night.

 

As a team, the Lady Colonels knocked down 4 three pointers while shooting 3 for 4 from the free throw line on the night.
