No, they have not fought a duel nor acted as a second in a duel. Several new and returning Henderson County officials were sworn into office on Thursday, December 29 at the old Courthouse. Retiring Family Court Judge Sheila Farris swore in the officials in what was likely her last official act as judge, barring an emergency order before Tuesday.
Each of the newly elected officials provided brief comments after they were sworn in.
Second District Magistrate Taylor Tompkins thanked his family and supporters. Fifth District Magistrate Bill Stephens Starks said he wants to continue to see the community grow. Henderson County Sheriff Chip Stauffer thanked Henderson citizens for their vote of confidence in him. Henderson County Board of Education District 2 School Board Member Joe McGarrh said he’s looking forward to his new public service role.
Other officials taking the oath of office yesterday at the old courthouse included Henderson County Judge-Executive Brad Schneider, Henderson County Attorney Steve Gold, Henderson County Clerk Renesa Abner, Henderson County Coroner Bruce Farmer, First District Magistrate Keith Berry, Third District Magistrate Tim Southard, and Fourth District Magistrate Billy “Butch” Puttman.
Newly elected Henderson Family Court Judge David Curlin was also sworn in Thursday afternoon at an earlier ceremony. New Henderson County Jailer Bruce Todd was also sworn in at an earlier ceremony.
