Thomas Hits 1,000 Points in Colonels Win

The Henderson County Colonels faced off against the Dawson Springs Panthers at Colonel Gym in the Henderson Chevrolet, Buick, GMC Classic.

 

In the first period, the Colonels outscored the Panthers 23-8, as senior guard Gerard Thomas scored 13 points and had 4 rebounds in the quarter. In the second quarter, the Colonels outscored the Panthers 27-10, as at halftime the Colonels held a 32 point lead over the Panthers with the score 50-18.

 

To begin the second half, the Panthers would outscore the Colonels 18-16 in the third, as the Colonels would hold a sizable 30 point lead heading into the fourth quarter with the score 66-36. In the final period, the Colonels would outscore the Panthers 26-22, as sophomore guard Mark Thomas knocked down 5 three pointers in the final 3 minutes as the Colonels came away with a 34 point win over the Panthers with the final score 92-58. The Colonels improve to (7-4) on the season while the Panthers drop to (5-8).

 

The leading scorer for the Colonels was senior guard Gerard Thomas with another double-double in which he had 27 points and 10 rebounds 5 for 6 from the free throw line on the night while scoring his 1,000th point in the game to join the 1,000 point club. Sophomore guard Mark Thomas scored 15 points by knocking 5 three pointers while sophomore guard Dwaine Moss scored 11 points while knocking down 2 three pointers. Sophomore forward Lacon McKinney tallied 10 points and 3 rebounds while senior forward Jake Rideout contributed 9 points and 8 rebounds. Junior guard Alec Satterfield recorded 6 points and 4 rebounds while sophomore guard Cole Branson had 5 points and 5 rebounds. Sophomore guard Cooper Davenport added 3 points while sophomore forward Trajdon Davis scored 2 points and had 9 rebounds. To round out the scoring for the Colonels, sophomore forward Elijah Suggs and senior guard Korey McElveen tallied 2 points each on the night.

For Dawson Springs, they were led by freshman Jaydon Plunkette with 21 points and 6 rebounds while sophomore guard Montgomery Johnston scored 18 points and grabbed 5 rebounds on the night.

 

As a team, the Colonels shot 9 for 15 from the free throw line while knocking down 9 three pointers and recorded 52 total rebounds while committing 13 turnovers on the night.

 

The Colonels will take on the Ohio County Eagles tomorrow night, Thursday December 29th, at 6:00 P.M. at Colonel Gym in the Henderson Chevrolet, Buick, GMC Classic.
