The Henderson County Lady Colonels faced off against the Hamilton Southeastern Lady Royals from Fishers, Indiana at North Central High School in Indianapolis, Indiana in the Paul Logan Memorial Basketball Invitational.
In the opening period, the Lady Royals outscored the Lady Colonels 23-12 heading into the second quarter. In that second quarter, the Lady Royals would outscore the Lady Colonels 20-9, as the Lady Royals held a 22 point lead over the Lady Colonels at halftime with the score 43-21.
To begin the second half, the Lady Royals would outscore the Lady Colonels 13-4, as the Lady Royals held a 56-25 lead over the Lady Colonels heading into the fourth quarter. In the fourth and final period, the Lady Royals would outscore the Lady Colonels 21-11, as the Lady Royals would defeat the Lady Colonels with the final score 77-36. The Lady Colonels fall to (7-3) on the season while the Lady Royals improve to (15-1).
The Lady Royals had a girl 6’3, a girl 6’2, a girl 6’0, and 3 girls with a height of 5’10. Also the Lady Royals have 2 Division 1 signees, one going to Butler and the other to Akron. The Lady Royals also have 1 Division 2 signee and 3 Division 1 prospects.
The leading scorer for the Lady Colonels was senior forward Jarie Thomas with 14 points while shooting 2 for 3 from the free throw line on the day. Senior guard Mallorie Veal scored 9 points by knocking down 3 three pointers while sophomore guard Shalyn Sprinkles tallied 5 points while shooting 3 for 4 from the free throw line. Senior guard Graci Risley and freshman forward A’Tylia Green both contributed 3 points each. To round out the scoring for the Lady Colonels, freshman forward Brooklyn Gibson added 2 points on the day.
As a team, the Lady Colonels knocked down 4 three pointers and shot 6 for 9 from the free throw line on the day.
The Lady Colonels next game will be Tuesday night, January 3rd, 2023, at Colonel gym against the Apollo E-Gals with tip-off at 7:00 P.M.
