The Henderson County Colonels took on the Ohio County Eagles at Colonel Gym in the Henderson Chevrolet, Buick, GMC Classic.
In the first period, the Colonels outscored the Eagles 20-5 as Colonel sophomore guard Cooper Davenport and senior forward Jake Rideout combined for 11 points heading into the second quarter. In the second period, the Eagles outscored the Colonels 17-14, as senior guard for the Colonels Gerard Thomas had 9 points in the quarter and the Colonels would knock down 3 three pointers in the quarter, as the Colonels would hold a 12 point lead at halftime with the score 34-22.
To begin the second half, the Colonels outscored the Eagles 9-8 in the third quarter, as the Colonels would hold a 13 point lead heading into the fourth quarter with the score 43-30. In the fourth and final quarter, the Colonels would outscore the Eagles 24-20, as senior guard Guard Gerard Thomas and sophomore guard Cooper Davenport combined for 14 points in the quarter, as the Colonels would come away with a 17 point victory over the Eagles with the final score 67-50. The Colonels improve to (8-4) on the season while the Eagles fall to (10-3).
The leading scorer for the Colonels was senior guard Gerard Thomas with 22 points and 6 rebounds while knocking down 2 three pointers and shooting 6 for 10 from the free throw line on the night. Senior forward Jake Rideout scored 20 points and grabbed 3 rebounds while knocking down 2 three pointers. Sophomore guard Cooper Davenport contributed 19 points and 5 rebounds while knocking down 3 three pointers and shooting 4 for 4 from the free throw line. To round out the scoring for the Colonels, sophomore guard Dwaine Moss tallied 4 points while sophomore forward Trajdon Davis added 2 points and recorded 5 rebounds on the night.
As a team, the Colonels shot 7 for 15 from the three point line, shot 10 for 14 from the free throw line and recorded 29 total rebounds while committing 5 turnovers on the night.
The Colonels will take on the Evansville Reitz Panthers tomorrow night, Friday December 30th, at 6:00 P.M. at Colonel Gym in the Henderson Chevrolet, Buick, GMC Classic.
