Colonels Struggles in 2nd Half Lead to Loss

The Henderson County Colonels took on the Evansville Reitz Panthers at Colonel Gym in the Henderson Chevrolet, Buick, GMC Classic.

 

In the first period, the Colonels outscored the Panthers 14-8 as Colonels sophomore guard Cooper Davenport and senior guard Gerard Thomas combined for 9 points heading into the second quarter. In the second period, the Panthers would outscore the Colonels 13-11, as the Colonels would hold a 4 point lead at halftime with the score 25-21.

 

To begin the second half, the Panthers would outscore the Colonels 9-7 in the third quarter, as the Colonels would hold a 2 point lead heading into the fourth quarter with the score 32-30.  In the fourth and final quarter, the Panthers would outscore the Colonels 14-7, as the Colonels would commit 12 team turnovers in the 2nd half and had a 11 point lead in the first half that in the second half led to the Colonels suffering a 5 point loss to the Panthers with the final score 44-39. The Colonels fall to (8-5) on the season while the Panthers improve to (5-1).

 

The leading scorer for the Colonels was senior guard Gerard Thomas with 12 points while grabbing 8 rebounds while also 4 for 7 from the free throw line on the night. Sophomore forward Trajdon Davis scored 9 points and recorded 9 rebounds while sophomore guard Cooper Davenport tallied 8 points. Senior forward Jake Rideout contributed 7 points and 4 rebounds while sophomore guard Dwaine Moss recorded 2 points. To round out the scoring for the Colonels, sophomore forward Elijah Suggs added 1 point on the night.

 

As a team, the Colonels knocked down 2 three pointers, shot 9 for 15 from the free throw line and recorded 33 total rebounds while committing 19 turnovers on the night. 

 

The Colonels will take on the Hopkinsville Tigers on the road in Hopkinsville on Tuesday, January 3rd, 2023, with the tip-off at 7:30 P.M.
