Gibson's Early Start Leads Henderson Past Apollo

The Henderson County Lady Colonels faced off against the Apollo E-Gals at home at Colonel Gym.

 

In the opening period, the Lady Colonels would outscore the E-Gals 22-14, behind Lady Colonel freshman forward Brooklyn Gibson’s 9 points in the quarter. In the second quarter, the Lady Colonels would outscore the E-Gals 16-11, as the Lady Colonels held a 13 point lead over the E-Gals at halftime with the score 38-25.

 

To begin the second half, the Lady Colonels would outscore the E-Gals 25-6, as Lady Colonel senior guard Graci Risley and freshman forward Brooklyn Gibson would combine for 12 points in the quarter, as the Lady Colonels held a 63-31 lead over the E-Gals heading into the fourth quarter. In the fourth and final period, the Lady Colonels would outscore the E-Gals 13-5, as the Lady Colonels would defeat the E-Gals with the final score 76-36. The Lady Colonels improve to (8-3) on the season while the E-Gals drop to (4-11).

 

The leading scorers for the Lady Colonels was senior forward Jarie Thomas and freshman forward Brooklyn Gibson with 15 points a piece on the night. Sophomore forward Anna Kemp scored 12 points while shooting 2 for 3 from the free throw line while senior guard Savannah Lacer contributed 10 points and 7 rebounds while knocking down 2 three pointers. Senior guard Graci Risley and sophomore guard Allyson Rideout both tallied 6 points each while sophomore guard Shalyn Sprinkles added 5 points. To round out the scoring for the Lady Colonels, senior guard Mallorie Veal tallied 4 points and 5 rebounds while freshman forward A’Tylia Green recorded 3 points and 5 rebounds on the night.

 

As a team, the Lady Colonels shot 5 for 15 (33%) from the three point line while shooting 9 for 13 (69%) from the free throw line and grabbed 31 total team rebounds on the night.

 

 The Lady Colonels next game will be Friday night, January 6th, at Colonel Gym against the Daviess County Lady Panthers with tip-off at 5:30 P.M. in the first game of the Lady Colonels/Colonels doubleheader.
