The Henderson County Lady Colonels faced off against the Bowling Green Lady Purples at Colonel Gym yesterday afternoon.
In the opening period, the Lady Colonels would outscore the Lady Purples 16-10, as Lady Colonel senior guard Graci Risley scored 11 points in the quarter. In the second period, both teams would score 15 each, as the Lady Colonels would hold a 6 point lead over the Lady Purples heading into halftime with the score 31-25.
To begin the second half, the Lady Colonels outscored the Lady Purples 21-11 in the third quarter, as sophomore guard Shalyn Sprinkles scored 14 points in the quarter, as the Lady Colonels held a 52-36 lead over the Lady Purples heading into the fourth quarter. In the fourth and final period, the Lady Purples would outscore the Lady Colonels 16-15 but the Lady Colonels would still come away with a 15 point win over one of the top 10 teams in the state in the Lady Purples with the final score 67-52. The Lady Colonels improve to (12-3) on the season while the Lady Purples fall to (11-6).
The leading scorer for the Lady Colonels was sophomore guard Shalyn Sprinkles with 22 points while knocking down 3 three pointers and grabbing 5 rebounds and recording 2 assists and 2 steals on the day. Senior guard Graci Risley scored 19 points while knocking down 5 three pointers while senior forward Jarie Thomas contributed 11 points and 5 rebounds. Senior guard Mallorie Veal tallied 6 points and 3 rebounds while sophomore forward Anna Kemp recorded 5 points and 4 rebounds while shooting 5 for 6 from the free throw line. Senior guard Savannah Lacer scored 3 points and recorded 3 rebounds and 2 assists. To round out the scoring for the Lady Colonels, freshman forward Brooklyn Gibson added 1 point on the day.
As a team, the Lady Colonels shot 10 for 19 (52%) from the three point line while shooting 21 for 33 (63%) from the free throw line while grabbing 25 total team rebounds and committing 13 turnovers on the day.
The Lady Colonels next game will be tomorrow night, Monday January 16th, at Colonel Gym as the Lady Colonels face off against 6th District opponent the Webster County Lady Trojans with the tip-off at 7:30 P.M.
