Another Big Region Win for Lady Colonels

The Henderson County Lady Colonels faced off against 2nd Region opponent the Madisonville-North Hopkins Lady Maroons at home at Colonel Gym.

 

In the opening period, the Lady Colonels would outscore the Lady Maroons 16-4, as Lady Colonel senior guard Mallorie Veal and senior forward Jarie Thomas combined for 11 points in the quarter. In the second period, the Lady Maroons outscored the Lady Colonels 10-7,  as the Lady Colonels would hold a 9 point lead over the Lady Maroons heading into halftime with the score 23-14.

 

To begin the second half, the Lady Colonels outscored the Lady Maroons 13-10, as senior guard Graci Risley scored all 13 points and the Lady Colonels would hold a 33-27 lead heading into the fourth quarter. In the fourth and final period, the Lady Colonels outscored the Lady Maroons 20-9, as the Lady Colonels would come away with a 17 point win over the Lady Maroons with the final score 53-36. The Lady Colonels improve to (14-3) on the season while the Lady Maroons fall to (12-6).

 

The leading scorer for the Lady Colonels was senior guard Graci Risley with 17 points while knocking down 3 three pointers on the night. Senior forward Jarie Thomas scored 11 points while shooting 3 for 4 from the free throw line while senior guard Mallorie Veal tallied 8 points. Sophomore guard Shalyn Sprinkles recorded 7 points while senior guard Savannah Lacer added 6 points while shooting 4 for 4 from the free throw line. To round out the scoring for the Lady Colonels, sophomore forward Anna Kemp tallied 4 points on the night.

As a team, the Lady Colonels knocked down 6 three pointers and shot 7 for 9 (78%) from the free throw line on the night.

The 8th ranked Lady Colonels next game will be Tuesday night, January 24th, on the road in Louisville against the number 13th team in the state of Kentucky the Christian Academy-Louisville Lady Centurions in the Louisville Invitational Tournament with the tip-off at 6 P.M. Central Time.
