The Henderson County Colonels faced off against the Evansville Central Bears at home at Colonel Gym.
In the first period, the Colonels outscored the Bears 25-8, as Colonel guards Lacon McKinney and Gerard Thomas combined for 16 points in the quarter. In the second period, the Colonels outscored the Bears 24-14, as the Colonels held a 27 point lead at halftime with the score 49-22.
To begin the second half, the Bears would outscore the Colonels 19-18, as the Colonels would hold a 26 point lead over the Bears heading into the fourth quarter with the score 67-41. In the fourth and final quarter, the Bears would outscore the Colonels 18-13, but the Colonels would still win by 21 points over the Bears with the final score 80-59. The Colonels improve to (14-6) on the season while the Bears fall to (7-7).
The leading scorer for the Colonels was senior guard Gerard Thomas with 26 points while shooting 3 for 5 from the three point line and 5 for 7 from the free throw line while grabbing 5 rebounds on the night. Sophomore guard Lacon McKinney scored 17 points and grabbed 3 rebounds while senior forward Jake Rideout contributed 15 points and 7 rebounds while shooting 3 for 4 from the free throw line. Sophomore guard Cooper Davenport tallied 12 points and grabbed 3 rebounds while junior guard Alec Satterfield recorded 6 points. To round out the scoring for the Colonels, junior guard Nick Belle and sophomore guard Dwaine Moss added 2 points each on the night.
As a team, the Colonels shot 3 for 11 (27%) from the three point line and shot 11 for 14 (78%) from the free throw line while grabbing 25 total team rebounds and committing 12 turnovers on the night.
The Colonels will face off in a 6th District rivalry game against the Webster County Trojans on Tuesday night, January 24th, at Colonel Gym with the tip-off at 7:30 P.M.
